I ngā au o wawata, i ngā tai o āwhero
Kia tae atu rā ki uta
Ki te whenua taurikura
Ki taku taunahanahatanga
Arā taku tōpuni ki te whenua e!
My gaze lifts to the heavens
To the luminous bodies above
Where the radiance of Matariki , Aotahi and Rehua can be found
Amongst the multitudes in the sky
We here will continue to mourn your passing
Rest forevermore in peace
To all of us, their descendants, greetings
Lend your hand to the steering paddle
Unfurl the sails
And let the stars in the sky
Guide the course of your vessel
On the tides and currents
To shores long imagined
Which carry our names
This is my treasured cloak which adorns the land
An enduring safe haven. Home.
